Royal 1840MX Paper Shredder Review

Paper shredders are in pretty much all offices around the world. They’re used for destroying documents that cannot be thrown in the trash because they’re with a high degree of confidentiality. As you might expect, there are good and bad shredders.

A couple of weeks ago, I was looking for one of the best paper shredders out there! I make no compromises when it comes to office accessories.

I searched the Internet and read some guides on shredders in general and lo! The answer to my problems was right before my eyes: The Royal 1840MX! Without a doubt, the most awesome shredder. If you don’t believe me, you will after finishing this review.

Royal is a heavy name in the industry of office supplies. The company has decades of experience in the field. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this model has everything a business owner wants from his shredder.

What strikes you the very first time is the design. The features are amazing, but your eyes will be taken by the stylish, black and silver look of this beautiful shredder. But let’s talk about what its characteristics are:

• Runs for 40 minutes without needing a cool-down
• 8 and a half gallons wastebasket (pullout mechanism)
• Cross cut shred
• Shreds paper, credit cards, CDs and DVDs
• 5-second shredding time (isn’t that amazing?)
• Anti-jam technology
• Automatic reverse, stop and start
• 5-year warranty on the motor and the blades
• Maximum of 18 sheets per session of shredding

I don’t even know what to say anymore, and I barely started the review. Now let’s see what you get by using it.

​The Results

For the most part, what you get with this Royal paper shredder is peace of mind. It shreds paper so fast that it’s surreal. Moreover, it doesn’t jam like your average machine and doesn’t sound like a Boeing 747 landing on gravel.

Naturally, it provides a very fine shred, so you won’t need to worry about anyone reading your vital documents, like your mail and your bills. The CDs, DVDs and credit cards go into separate slots, so the knives for paper don’t get busted.

In respect with jams, the Royal 1840MX unjams itself. Whenever a jam is detected, a light will go off, and the shredder will automatically set itself on reverse, cleaning the jam. One point for feasibility. Unjamming a shredder is by far the most horrible thing.

A recurrent problem with many shredders is that, after a while, they kind of slow down and stop shredding paper as quickly as they did when they were new. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 1840MX doesn’t fall under this “rule of thumb.”

It’s the most fantastic purchase I’ve ever made for the office. And my employees are as happy as they can be.

​What Other People Say

Don’t look for the needle in the haystack, i.e. stop looking for bad reviews when they’re very scarce and the fruit of either inadequate transportation or unreal expectations. The Royal 1840MX has received amazing reviews from hundreds of customers.

I read them too before purchasing my own. That’s one of the main reasons why I did it without looking back. Everybody praises its voracity. Years after the purchase, apparently, it works as if it were brand new. How many other brands can pull that off?

​What We Like

Everything; and this might be the first time I can’t find a fault to something. I haven’t had it for too long, but I’m positive it will work great even after many years. For me personally, the combination of great design and functionality makes this shredder sell itself.

It’s a little bit expensive, but the price is 100% justified. I’m not complaining at all; I’m just stating what other people may see as obvious. But yes, it’s worth it.

The quality meets the highest standards, it’s silent, and it eats paper and DVDs faster than I can eat a pile of fresh doughnuts.

​What We Don’t Like

As of now, there is absolutely nothing I don’t like about this product. It may be hard to believe, but it’s the truth and the truth only. The package itself was delivered carefully, the shredder was in pristine condition (in which it is to this day), and I’ve been using it ever since.

I think I might have actually overused it, in the sense that I tried to see if it has any limit on how much paper it can chug every day. I lost the battle, but I was expecting that.

​Final Verdict

Royal’s 1840MX is the best paper shredder you can get for an affordable price. Instead of paying double for a brand that promises surreal results, make the right call and spare yourself some trouble.

I don’t usually get this excited for devices, but this one simply blew my mind. I use it more for the fun of it. If it breaks within five years, I can always send it back for reparations, since the warranty will cover the expenses. Another reason to buy it.
